We now have a listing of many of the other (non-series) snowshoe and related races in the northeastern US. Please be aware the race information was accurate when the list was assembled but may change as the season progresses; ALWAYS check with the race website and/or RD for the most up-to-date information.
If you know of a race that’s not on the list, or if you spot an error, send the info along and I’ll take care of it.
Race listing is available here or follow the link on the left sidebar under “non-series races”.
P.S. I’m hoping to have an actual events calendar with all of these plus our series races on the site soon… just need to time to assemble the thing.
NO RACE TODAY – while conditions are acceptable at the moment (albeit very wet!) the forecast is calling for a rapid temperature drop this afternoon with a strong possibility of black ice – potentially unsafe conditions for travel home afterwards. The race is postponed until sometime in early January – race date will be updated as soon as we have the info.
The 23rd season of the Dion WMAC Snowshoe Series kicked off today with the Gore Ski Bowl 2.3mi Snowshoe Race. Nineteen runners braved the snowy roads to run a rolling 3 lap course on groomed XC ski trails. Thanks to the Gore Ski Bowl & Upper Hudson Trails Alliance for hosting the race and to Underdog Race Timing for timing the race.
2016 Gore Ski Bowl 2.3mi race results
Special thanks to the Dzikowicz family for taking a ton of photos during the race and sharing them with us!
We’re almost there – the season opening 5k race at the Gore Ski Bowl (NOT the downhill ski center) is tomorrow afternoon at 2 PM. Race information including links to print/download directions are available at the Gore race page.
All speeds are welcome in both the timed 5k and the untimed 2.5k.
A couple of things to keep in mind –
- The forecast is calling for snow so leave some extra travel time, especially given that
- race check-in and day-of registration are available from 12:30 to 1:30 PM in the yurt. The Gore website indicates that they will not be able to accommodate late registrations, so arrive early – if you get there at the last minute you may miss out.
- Print out the Gore waiver (available on the race page) and bring it with you to save some time tomorrow.
If you need snowshoes we will have a limited number available for rental for $5 a pair.
If you’ve never done a snowshoe race before, make sure you bring some warm dry clothes to change into after the race.
Any questions, send an email to one of us (contact info) and we’ll do our best to get an answer.
And most important of all – have fun and enjoy your time in the snow!
