The Hoot Toot & Whistle 5k on Saturday, 2/4, was held as a snowshoe race with 42 official finishers and a couple of folks who walked part of the course. Tim Van Orden and Jamie Woolsey were once again the overall winners – they are definitely giving their competitors a run for their money! Results including series points can be found here.
The Saratoga Winterfest 5k on Sunday, 2/5, was held as a trail race (reluctantly!) after numerous attempts to find an alternate course that would provide decent snowshoeing. 45 runners and walkers enjoyed the Saratoga Spa State Park trails. Series regular Tim Van Orden and Shaun Donegan had a very tight sprint to the finish, with Shaun edging Tim out by 1 second. The winner of the womens’ race was Peggy McKeown. Conditions permitting, we have two more doubleheader weekends coming up before the World Snowshoeing Championships in Saranac Lake on February 24-26.
