Calling All Writers, Bloggers, Etc – Submissions Needed for the Newsletter

We have traditionally had a newsletter to accompany our series, with a combination of race results, race reports, and articles about topics related to our sport. In addition to being the humble web-minion, I also get to assemble the newsletter to post on our site.

If you have a race report that you’d like to share or other writing relevant to what we do, please send it along via my email and you will get bragging rights that you are a published author in what is likely the oldest snowshoeing newsletter in the northeastern US (if not the whole US.) Race reports about non-series races are welcome. Do you have a particular piece of gear that you think is fantastic – send along a review. Write snowshoe haikus or sonnets? Share them with us.

If you’re wondering what this mythic newsletter has contained in the past – check out the SnoNews page on our main menu for almost two decades worth of newsletters.

Any questions, shoot me an email and I will try to have answers…

Welcoming 2017 at Hilltop Orchards

45 runners & walkers kicked off the new year by “enduring” almost ideal race conditions at Hilltop Orchards on Sunday, January 1, 2017. Tim Van Orden and Jamie Woolsey have now taken 1st place for two races in a row… stay tuned to see if their streaks continue next weekend at the Get Rec’d 5k+ in VT. After the race participants were treated to cider donuts and wine samples courtesy of Hilltop Orchards.

SERIES RACE#2 ON SUNDAY 1/1 – HILLTOP ORCHARDS 5k

It looks like it’s going to be a GREAT weekend for our 2nd series race, the Hilltop Orchards 5k. The weather forecast looks good and the snow we’ve been getting should provide ideal course conditions.

The race starts at 1 PM, with registration from noon to 12:45. $15 gets you a chance to play in the snow and afterwards a cider donut and wine tasting. More information is available here on the event page (which includes links to google maps for directions if you need them.)

If you need snowshoes, there should be a limited number of Dion loaners available for $5/pair.

Arrive early so you’ll have plenty of time to get signed up (or checked in, if you pre-registered back for the original date), get loaners if you need them, and decide what clothing the conditions warrant. Carpool when possible (it makes parking easier and is good for the environment) and bring a change of clothes for afterwards.

And most importantly – enjoy whatever the course and conditions send your way and have fun!

A Few Updates…

  • Hilltop Orchards 5k has been rescheduled for Sunday 1/1 at 1 PM.

We recognize that this might conflict with other New Year’s Day events but the forecast for Sunday is much better than the one for Monday. Day of registration will be $15, no need to prereg. If anything changes as the day gets closer we’ll post it here and on Facebook.

  • Updated information is available for the Get Rec’d 5k+ on Sunday 1/8 and Curly’s Record Run on Sunday 1/29. Both are day-of registration only.

It looks like we’ll be getting some snow as we head toward the New Year – let’s hope that keeps up as snowshoe season picks up pace!
